mmmm... trade deadline

This has probably been the busiest trade deadline in recent memory. Here is a quick overview of the trades as I see it:
Teixeira -> Anaheim
Kotchman + Stephen Marek -> Kotchman
I don't really get this one. It makes the Angels a little better this season, but they already pretty much have the division locked up? Maybe they are just worried about getting hfa in the playoffs? The fact that they can now sign/extend Teix without giving up a draft pick is worth a little I guess, but I think the more likely scenario will be them getting two picks when he signs somewhere else.
This trade improves ATL in the medium term, so they must be looking to compete again next season, which is reasonable. They lose the two compensation picks they would've received upon Teix's departure via free agency and Marek isn't much more than a throw-in, so they must really want to compete next year.
This seems like a pretty fair trade, I'd say ATL probably got the better end slightly.
Manny -> LAN
Bay -> Boston
Craig Hansen, Brandon Moss, Andy LaRoche and Bryan Morris -> Pittsburgh
I think its pretty safe to say Pittsburgh wins here. They get a couple of useful, mlb-ready position players in Moss and LaRoche, a young MLB ready reliever in Hansen and another young pitching prospect.
I also like this trade for Boston. It likely improves them a little bit going down the stretch (huge defensive improvement) and also gives them a good LF for next year. Not to mention they finally are past the Manny circus.
Since I like this trade for the other two teams, it shouldn't be any surprise that I don't like it for the Dodgers. The biggest thing they'll get, probably, is some draft picks when he leaves after the season.
Griffey -> ChiSox
Nick Masset, Danny Richar -> Cincy
I love this trade. It makes the Sox worse now and in the future. I also can't believe they are thinking of playing Griffey in CF. He was terrible at it when he was 34, I can't imagine he's gotten better in the last 5 years. That will cost them a TON of runs. :) :) :)

Pitchers aren't that fun anyway...

Actually I just got a little tired of writing about baseball and haven't been finding as much time to write with my work schedule how it is now. But football season is starting again, so look for that to change, as initially I envisioned the sports portion of this blog to be mostly dedicated to the NFL.
That said:
I'm sick of hearing about Favre.
If you can, try to catch HBO's Hard Knocks this season. Its a great show that should be particularly fun this season as they are at the Cowboy's training camp with Pac-Man, I mean, Adam Jones, Terrell Owens, Roy Williams, etc.
Things I would have wrote about had I not been on a break:
Kubel awesome
Morneau awesome
Span awesome
Yeah span leading off!
Gomez awesome, but not at hitting :(
Casilla likely out for the year :(
Don't sign LaTroy Hawkins
Bring Liriano up, start him, move Livan to the pen, DFA Bass.
That's all for now, I'm late for work!
